history,education and experience

Dr. Caplis was born and raised in the south. His mother hails from Vicksburg, Mississippi.  Growing up, Dr. Caplis traveled throughout Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana  playing competitive soccer, which led to playing collegiate soccer at Louisiana Tech University.  He had several sports related injuries, which began his understanding of just how important the foot and ankle are to your health and abilities.  He graduated with honors in the pre-medical honor society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, from Centenary College of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He successfully finished his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine degree at Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, IL in 2005.

During his podiatric medical school education, Dr. Caplis served as president of his class and held a leadership role within the sports medicine club. During that time, he also worked in the medical tents treating participants at the Chicago Marathon, Triathlon and the three-day Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk. He later completed a highly intense three-year podiatric medicine and surgical residency in Chicago, IL from 2005-2008, where he served as Chief Podiatric Surgery Resident from 2007-2008.

Dr. Caplis expanded his training to involve the latest in cosmetic techniques and procedures for the foot and ankle while studying with Dr. Suzanne Levine at the Institute Beaute’ in New York City.  This included learning Botox in the foot for hyperhidrosis and Sculptra/collagen injections to replace the natural fat padding to the ball of the foot, among other techniques.

Dr. Caplis has traveled to San Salvador, El Salvador to perform surgery on children with clubfeet and adults with foot deformities who required specialized surgical intervention. He found the experience extremely rewarding and plans to return in the future.
